Pittilator

The pittilator is used as a make-shift sink for washing hands, keep one near the kitchen so Scouts can wash before cooking. A sock with a bar of soap inside can be used to to clean the hands, just tie the sock to the wire on the pittilator so it isn't lost.

Supplies:

  • Coffee can (#10 size can)
  • Roll-type can opener
  • Hole punch (or drill)
  • Clothes hanger wire
  • Wooden plug
  • Cord

Procedure (refer to picture for examples):

  • Using the roll-type can opener remove one end of the can.
  • Using the hole punch (or drill) make two holes in the top of the can, on opposite sides.
  • Using a hole punch make a 1/4" hole near the bottom of the can.
  • Fashion a handle out of the wire and run it through the holes punched in the top of the can. Wrap the wire back on itself to secure the wire handle.
  • Fashion a wooden plug, tappered to fit the hole in the bottom of the can.
  • Tie a cord through the end of the plug, then pull the plug through the bottom hole from the inside of the can.
  • Pull the plug into the hole to make the can water-tight.
  • Fill can with water and hang it near where it will be used.

Usage:

  • Push the plug into the can so that a trickle of water runs out.
  • Wash hands with soap.
  • Pull cord to plug hole and stop water flow.
