The FRIENDS OF THE MILL POND & OAK CREEK WATERCOURSE, INC. Holiday Faire was a huge success at the Grant Park Golf Club House.  This Victorian House is decorated inside with stockings hung, a Christmas tree decorated with pheasant feathers and other natural materials, a roaring fire in the fireplace and elegant swags on the windows.  There was a "bake sale" with goodies to go, and a silent auction for donated "best works" by South Milwaukee artists and photographers. A hot ham sandwich Lunch Special was offered along with hot apple cider or hot chocolate.  Holiday music was beautifully performed by the South Milwaukee Middle School Orchestra students for those in attendance.  Raffle tickets were donated by Milwaukee County Golf, Mitchell Park Domes, Red Arrow Skating, Cool Waters Water Park and County Zoo Passes.  Also on display was the "Miller Tub of Beer" which will be raffled at the 1st Annual Holiday Tea to be held at the Grant Park Golf Club House on December 15, 2007.

Oak Creek Watercourse Clean Up

On Saturday, October 14, 2006 The Friends of Mill Pond & Oak Creek Watercourse, Inc. successfully cleaned the watercourse from the South Milwaukee High School - east to North Chicago Avenue.

31 bags of trash, shopping carts, a plastic slide, 3 tires w/rims, 1 pair of crutches, a bike tire, a battery, assorted balls and toys, a tricycle, fire extinguisher, jacket, container of oil, misc. pieces of plywood, and a street barricade were among the items removed from the area.

Workers consisted of 5 Mill Pond Group members, a teacher from the South Milwaukee Middle School along with 10 students, and 3 WI DNR Game Wardens.  We started at 8am and worked until 12:30 pm, for a total of 76.5 volunteer hours.  Our thanks to all who participated in this event.  With everyone pitching in to help in the community, we can make a difference.
