Curator's Corner

Greetings! Glad to be your Curator.

I have completed work with Jonalee Merkel, a UW-Madison Senior, regarding her research paper on the Social Implications of South Milwaukee Citizens and Citizen Groups on South Milwaukee, 1893-Present. I spent many hours providing Jonalee with the wide range of resources in the Society’s Archives.

I have also completed work with UW-Milwaukee Graduate Student Lynda Citro of South Milwaukee on a Digital Library and Virtual Tour addition to the Society’s website. Lynda will present her project at the Society’s Annual Dinner in February. I would like to thank Lynda; the Director, Board and Staff of the South Milwaukee Library; the Staff of the UW-Milwaukee Golda Meir Library and Archives; and, Iris Xie and the Staff of the UW-Milwaukee Department of Information Sciences for their help in enriching our website.

On December 2, I hosted a tour of eleven Tiger Scouts and their families from Pack 250 of Divine Mercy Parish. Everyone was enlightened on the rich history of South Milwaukee, with a focus on Family Life. Our Board Members helped out the Scouts with tasty treats after the tour. Each scout was given a “Thank You” package, including a City of South Milwaukee Map, postcards, Yellowstone Trail information, and Membership blanks. Thanks to everyone who helped out, especially Judy Balistreri, for the designs on the packages.

My research is progressing on compiling original South Milwaukee postcards, in the hopes of compiling enough to write another Arcadia Book on South Milwaukee, based on the postcards. If anyone has any original postcards of South Milwaukee of any kind, please contact me at 405-3516; your help is appreciated.

I am also doing research on Reggie Lisowski-AKA, The Crusher- and other American Wrestling Association Wrestlers in the hopes of obtaining approval of the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee of the United States Postal Service for issuance of first class postages stamps in South Milwaukee. I am also working with the South Milwaukee Postmaster on this project.
