The 2008 Cross Country season began with the 22th annual alumni run and time trial.  23 alumni returned to run and or watch the event.  The men's winner was Mark Mitchel - class of 2006) with a time of 16:47.  The women's winner was sophomore Rachel Westover with a time of 17:20. 

 

Top 5 finishers for the boys:  Andy Zimmermann - 12 - 18:17

                                          Vince Totka - 12 - 18:59

                                          Joe Denk - 12 - 19:24

                                          Alex Fanagan - 11- 19:31

                                          John Campbell - 11 - 19:49

 

Top 5 finishers for the girls:  Rachel Westover -10 - 17:20

                                         Leah Rendflesh - 9 - 17:41

                                         Katie Wood - 9 - 18:22

                                         Alysha Rendflesh - 12 - 18:37

                                         Brianna   Vivian - 12 - 18:39

 

The Rockets have been working out since Aug. 18.  We have 19 boys and 18 girls on the team.  Returning letter winners are: 

    Seniors:  Joe Denk, Vincent Totka, Andy Zimmermann, Amanda Blochowicz, Mandy Mielke, Alysha Rendflesh, Brianna Vivian.

    Juniors:  Stephanie Blake

    Sophomores:  Josh Roszak, Rachel Westover.

 

The boys had a record of 98 & 5 last year and were conference champs.  The qualified for the state meet for the 3rd year in a row and finished in 10th place.  We had a very good group of seniors graduate so we will need several JV runners to be able to compete on the varsity level if we hope to finish in the top half in our meets.

 

The girls had a 18 & 85 record and finished 9th at the conference meet.  Rachel Westover qualified for the state meet and finished in 121st place.  This years team should do much better.  Our veterans have come back in good shape and we have a good group of freshmen runners. 

 

The next race for the Rockets will be the Kenosha Tremper Grade Level Invitational.  There will be 4 races for boys and 4 races for girls.  The first race begins at 9:00 am.  24 schools will be participating.  Rachel Westover won the freshmen race last year.  Andy Zimmermann was 3rd in the junior race last year.  It will be interesting to see were the all of our athletes finish this year.

 

We are still looking for any boys or girls who are interested in joining the team.  We meet at the high school at 9:00 am each day next week.
