K4 & K5 l New Student Orientation |
| The first day of school
or at a new school can be hectic. The Welcome Day for new students and
parents gives you a chance to take a tour of the school and become familiar
with the surroundings before that big day arrives. Our Principal provides a
brief welcome; teachers are on hand for introductions along with our
Guidance Counselor and a PTO representative to answer any questions that you
may have. |
|
Open House |
| Open House is designed
to introduce you to your child's teacher and gives you a chance to see their
classroom and to tour the school building. The Open House is held within the
first few weeks of school. |
|
Picture Day |
| Picture Day is held in
the fall. PTO volunteers are there to keep the children orderly and to do
hair touch-ups. A memory book of all class pictures, school groups and
activities is available for purchase (a little later in the school year) in
addition to individual pictures of students. |
|
Popsicle Days |
| Popsicles are given to
each student after the Charity Walk which is either held in May or June. If
the Charity Walk is held in May PTO will sponsor a 2nd Popsicle day on the
last day of school. |
|
Holiday Sing |
| This musical event
features the entire student body by grade level. It is held at Rawson School
to accommodate all families, relatives and friends. This is on of the
highlights of the school year! |
|
Fifth Grade Recognition |
| Fifth Grade recognition
is an annual event held to say "Farewell and Good Luck" to out going fifth
graders. Various awards are presented to students. A slide presentation
highlighting the school year features our fifth grade students. Refreshments
and punch are served. Fifth Grade Room parents organize this event but 4th
grade parents volunteer to set up and serve the treats so the fifth grade
parents can enjoy the night. |
|
Teacher Appreciation Week |
| A week in May is set
aside as Teacher Appreciation Week. This is a time when parents donate
snacks of all kinds each day of the school week. A special luncheon caps off
the week as we say Thank you to the teachers and staff for all their efforts
throughout the year. |
|
Field Trips / In-House Programs |
| Each grade level takes
part in various field trips throughout the year. In addition to these trips
outside of the school, in house programs and presentations are provided for
educational entertainment as well. PTO provides financial support for all of
these activities. Parents may have to send in a nominal fee to cover
additional costs for some of these field trips. |
|
Family Nights |
| During the fall and in
the spring, PTO sponsors two events for the entire student body and their
families. In recent years, the events have been the famous "Roller Skating
Party" and "Spring Dance/Sock Hop". Details are provided as the events
approach. |
|
Art Fair / Ice Cream Social |
| In April, Blakewood has
an Art Show and Ice Cream Social. Artwork is displayed for each student at
the school. After looking at the artwork from all of our budding young
artists, bring your appetite to the gym for an Ice Cream Sundae, courtesy of
the PTO. |
